Fall has arrived in\u00a0Virginia. The cold weather may\u00a0deter you from spending much time on home repair or improvements, but neglecting these simple tasks\u00a0now may\u00a0lead to problems come spring. We have compiled a list of five fall plumbing tips to keep your home running at the\u00a0highest possible efficiency and to\u00a0protect you against any potential\u00a0plumbing problems this winter season.<\/p>\n<h3>Outdoor Hoses<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Drain the remaining water from the hose. Take apart the hose to ensure that water will not freeze and back up, which can lead to a burst\u00a0spigot (see below) and a ruined\u00a0hose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Leaking Spigots<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>As mentioned above, check for a leaky spigot after removing your hose. If there is a leak, have it fixed immediately to avoid any bursts and cracks within your water pipes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Gutters, Drains &amp; Downspouts<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean, remove and repair any drainage devices around your home. If left backed up or damaged, freezing temperatures can cause leaks and overflows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Water Heater Sediment Removal<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>If you have a water heater, flush out the sediment buildup. This buildup\u00a0causes corrosion, shortens the life span of the water heater, and reduces heating efficiency. Consult the owner&#8217;s manual\u00a0for\u00a0instructions specific to your make and model.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Insulation of Pipes<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Now is the perfect time to prepare your AC and water pipes before winter\u00a0temperatures set in.
